The Forecaster for June 12, 2018

Donna Wilson kicked off the meeting last week by announcing that the June Rotarian of the Month was the entire Contributions Committee and Alexandria Day Nursery & Children’s Home Foundation for the outstanding effort they led in donating $135,000 to 54 Alexandria deserving non-profit organizations. Mary Roman then led presentation of two CTE/Vocational scholarships of $2500 each to Sajelle Avery (TC Williams) and Ana Avila (Hayfield Secondary). Our fabulous speaker last week was CAPT (USN, ret.) Eugene “Red” McDaniel who was introduced by his grandson Casey Lindsay. Red told details of his 6 years as a POW in Hanoi – torture, deprivation, as well as the ability to communicate with other prisoners and the role of his faith in God in sustaining him. He was imprisoned for 2018 days and his speech was strongly applauded by everyone. He’s also written a book “Scars and Striped” that many members bought after his speech.
